The outrageous millinery styles of the Edwardian period were simply overwhelming and are a joy to reproduce in miniature. From the wide shapely brims of the early 20th century to the large toques of a few years later they are all stunning and are a milliner's dream of lace, chiffons, flowers and feathers. I love to reproduce the intricate brim linings and wonderful structures of these opulent pieces. I hope you will enjoy the examples below...each one is unique as always!
Vitalia......An Edwardian beauty of cool champagne silk, the tall tailored crown of this hat is swathed in pale ecru silk tulle and at the front of the brim a cluster of silk petals and twists. The ornate hat pin can be used to fix the hat into place and a cloud of marabou adds a final touch of frivolity. Silk lined
Loreta......A stunning combination of grey silk with baby pink flowers this lovely piece of 12th scale millinery has a tailored crown and a shapely lace covered brim with baby pink piping. Fluffy grey marabou sweeps across the back of the crown.
Nicolina.....Created from smooth hazelnut silk this tailored 1/12 scale Edwardian hat has a wide shapely brim trimmed with ecru lace. Scatterings of chocolate taffeta ribbon and, tulle and bronze backed pearls nestle into the side of the crown and the profusion of fluffy marabou feathers in chocolate and cream tones add the finishing touch.
Solene......Another beauty inspired by 'the Abbey' (I admit it...I'm an addict!) is this opulent cloche of champagne gold silk with ornate embroidered lace adorning the brim and crown.. A large silk blossom of vintage ribbon and honey gold beads decorates the side and the narrow brim turns up to show a peep of embroidery below.
Lorredana..................A unique piece of 12th scale millinery created from cool ecru and sage silk stripes. A tailored crown is surrounded by an abundance of handmade silk rosebuds and puffs of ecru silk tulle. Silk lined and beautiful either on display or worn by a 12th scale doll.
Clemence...this really is a little stunner for the most modern of the Edwardian girls. A chic cloche hat with upturned brim of exquisite wine silk taffeta. The crown has a wonderful ruched texture with a large taffeta bow at the back and huge blooms of cream and wine nestle into the brim. Antique French seed beads have been used to create the ornate brooch.
Alexia.........Ruffles and folds of rich chocolate silk create this stunning fur trimmed cloche. The narrow brim is slightly downturned and a large rosette of bronze and chocolate with a bronze brooch adorns the side.
Louane.....A mouthwatering rasberry velvet chapeau with narrow upturned brim and an array of large cream silk flowers interspersed with fuschia and blue buds. The rounded crown is swathed in pearl studded cream tulle and a swirl of fuschia ostrich feather adds the final touch.
Romane....I adore these stunning peacock colours for winter and the Edwardians made full use of the vibrant hues. This opulent hat of forest green silk velvet has a shapely wide brim trimmed with matching trim and faced with luxurious blue silk. The long elegant peacock feathers are clasped to the round crown by a rosette of silk and cafe au lait tulle and a cluster of shimmering pearls.
Lady Violet...inspired by one of the magnificent Downton Abbey creations this majestic hat is of rich amethyst silk velvet elegantly draped with lilac tulle and adorned with a scattering of lilac 'grapes'. The Duchess would love it!
'Shona'....an adorable hat of raspberry silk velvet which falls into folds over a rounded crown. Tiny violet and cream handmade flowers nestle into a ruffle of ecru lace and a bow of antique silk ribbon completes the back.
Can be worn by a 12th scale doll
'Rhoda'.......a stylish turn of the century chapeau of winter white silk velvet faced with shirred silk chiffon of pinks, ecrus and greens. A burguny silk ribbon swathes the soft lace covered crown and flowers trail across the brim.
Can be worn by a 12th scale doll
'Constance'......A smart hat inspired by the fashions of 1906, this shallow crowned design of slate blue is worn perched high on one side of the head showing off the curls of perfectly toning feathers, tiny co-ordinating silk roses and vivid blue seed pearls. The sweeping brim is faced with cream piping giving a suggestion of straw and this is also studded in blue pearls. A silk bandeau holds the hat in it's elegant position whether on a 12th scale doll or hatstand. Silk lined.
